What if I just use it as a background then use it ,if not then I will just make my own

the only thing you shouldn't do is sell the patterns as patterns. other than that you can do whatever you like. if you create a work with the patterns and sell it....great!! i hope you make lots of money.

i'm very easy. i don't see the point of creating a resource only to put limits on it. and credit back is not necessary unless you really want to.

good luck....

I download it then opened it and then comes pictures and not .pat or so ?!?!?!

i made them as .png file so that ps users can use them as well.

open a file and then save as .pat in you patterns folder.

thank you for looking and your interest. i have a couple questions.

which directory did you put them in? are you using windows or a different op system?

Windows XP Gimp 2.0 stored in the C drive, put them
in the patterns folder.

there are two patterns folders. one is: c:/Documents & Settings/(user name)/.gimp-2.x/patterns

the other is: c:/program files/Gimp-2.0/share/gimp/2.0/patterns

i always use the first one.

if they still don't work itmay be that gimp doesn't know where to find them.

for gimp 2.6 click: edit>;preferences and then on the "folders" selection. click on the icon that looks like a piece of papaer in the window that pops up. then you can browse to find the folder you put the patterns in and select it.

for other gimp versions the preference option is found under File>;preferences.

Which gimp version do u have?
I tried downloading the newest
version which is ALOT different
with a GNU Image Manipulation
Program thingy in which u drop
images in there to open them?! lol
I went to edit, preferences, folders,
then patterns and it won't let me add
anything. Then I tried the way I did
it before with an older version and
went the other c:/program files/Gimp-2.0/share/gimp/2.0/patterns. When I
tried c:/Documents & Settings/(user name)
/.gimp-2.x/patterns it showed a folder for
.gimp-2.4 which is what I had and .gimp-2.6.
I don't have nearly as hard a time adding
fonts so I dunno why this is SO difficult!
lol Getting REALLY frustrated here...
But I do appreciated u trying to help
me. I just dunno what else to do?

another way to use the pattern, until you can sort out the problem, is to open the .png file and then copy it.

when you open the patterns dialog the copy is the first pattern.

how do you change the colours?
i tried choosing different colours as my fg and bg colours but it didn't work. anybody know?
Reply
:iconistarlome:
istarlome Featured By Owner Jun 14, 2009
thanks for looking.

actually using a different bg should work. i also change the layer mode to something that looks good.

open a new canvas
fill with the color you like
add a new layer and fill with the pattern
change the mode

note you can open the pattern and then save it as a .pat file.
